My Kingdom for a Massage: Centre Spa & Wellness

Centre Spa & Wellness

Tucked away on a side street in Capitol Hill sits a cozy little massage gem by the name of Centre Spa & Wellness.

The Centre Spa and Wellness was formerly known as The Centre for Family Well Being.  It began in 1994, it was originally on the maternity floor of the Peter Lougheed Hospital.  It was the first private ‘in-hospital’ massage clinic specializing in pregnancy massage.

The Centre has expanded over the years and now caters to pre and postnatal clients as well as the general public. It now includes multiple kinds of massage, Reiki, reflexology, spa services, and more.

How Is It?

The spa is bright and full of natural sunlight. There are privacy screens for the pedicures and manicure services, and private treatment rooms for all other services.

I chose a therapeutic massage because I have fibromyalgia and some minor injuries, and I was assigned to Anne-Marie. She pointed out where the bathroom was, as it was going to be an hour long massage, and then showed me to my treatment room. The room was warmly colored and the color combination of brown and light blue is a personal favorite of mine. Some of the dimmed lighting was courtesy of a Himalayan salt rock lamp, and there was soothing music softly playing in the background.

Anne-Marie came in when I indicated I was ready and she began by helping me get adjusted on the bed and into the most comfortable position for me. She asked about my injuries, in addition to what I wrote on my sign-in sheet, and even asked what kind of oil I preferred (I chose lavender). She was always making sure I was comfortable and not in any discomfort or pain and that the pressure was the right amount. I appreciated that given I was nursing some sore spots that day!

Feeling So Much Better

When it was over I felt a lot less pain and very relaxed. I could have napped right there! (Note to self; open a massage & nap studio). Overall, even through the next day, it helped so much! I was able to move around in considerably less pain and I was much more relaxed and calm throughout my day. In addition, I really enjoyed my massage and experience. I will definitely be back to try out other services. I’ve been thinking about tinting my lashes for a while now.
