The Best Place For Beer On Stephen Avenue

Social Beer Haus opened up in August of 2019 right beside the McDonald’s on 8th Ave SW (Stephen Avenue). They have a huge selection of beer taps, bottles/cans, cocktails, wine and whiskey. Their food focus is Texan style BBQ; big and bold with lots of smokey flavours. If you like hot wings, they have something called Salsa Suicida, which are only for people 18+ and older – and you need to sign a waiver before you’re allowed to eat them. Their wings are also gluten free! Check out their daily specials below, wings are half price on Wednesdays after 4:00 PM. They’re opening a bowling alley on the second floor, and eventually they’ll have a rooftop patio. Can’t wait, it’s a good watering hole.

Social Beer Haus also offers private bookings and their website has detailed event packages, which includes some pre-defined menu packages and prices if you want to book events there. On Wednesdays they have live music by house band Groove Theory, and on Saturdays nights DJ Wacho / DJ Chaula whom specialize in Spanish and Latino music.

There’s lots of room to sit! Their overall seating capacity is something like 260 people? Sitting at the bar is a good idea as their service is terrific (shoutout to Bobby) and you’ll have a good time chatting with them. In the back of their space is where the DJs/band set up. Lots of room for everyone. Kids are allowed every day until 9:00 PM.

Drink Menu

They have 66 different beers on tap, plus a large selection of bottles and cans. Of all of their beers on tap, 43/66 are made in Alberta. Pints are actually 20oz, and they even have 32oz beer steins.

Something Social Beer Haus has that nobody else does are barrels of beer. They come in two sizes, 3 Litres and 5 L litres. Serve yourself from your own little barrel at the table. Good for groups of friends, or solo people who are really good at drinking beer.

Their cocktails are yummy. Try the happy hour $5 Southern Slush. It’s almost like a Bellini without the actual slush. Incredibly easy to drink.

Pictured below is their Southern Slush cocktail, and the Triphammer Robust Porter from Blindman Brewing. 6.5%, 25 IBU. This beer is on their list of 6x rotational brews.

All weekday food specials are available only after 4:00 PM.

Happy Hour

Their happy hour runs from Sunday through Thursday, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM and then from 9:00 PM till close. Full 20oz pints are $7, and they’re served in a 22oz glass to make sure you get a real pint of beer.

After 9:00 PM, 4 of their smoked meat dishes are 1/2 price:

• 1/2 lb slow smoked brisket
• 1/2 lb pulled pork
• 1/2 lb pork belly burnt ends
• 1/2 lb hot link sausage

They’re Adding A Bowling Alley!

Coming in 2021 they’ll be adding in a bowling alley on the second floor! 10 lanes. Plus an arcade of some sort. We’ll update this blog post with photos once it’s open. After the bowling alley comes a rooftop patio. Can’t wait.

Conclusion

We really liked it and will absolutely be visiting again. The amount of taps available means they will be something for every beer drinker. A downside at this time is no Gluten-Free beer, although there is cider available, which is GF. Also, If you drink Wild Rose beer at Social Beer Haus, you’ll be helping charity! From their website:
