Do you know someone with PTSD<\/a>? Chances are you do. PTSD affects 1 in 10 Canadians<\/a> and our country actually has the highest rate of PTSD in the world. It can affect children as well as adults, and may not even present itself months or years after the initial exposure of the trauma. Breaking Free Foundation<\/i>\u00a0(BFF) is a Calgary-based non-profit that helps support survivors of trauma.<\/p>\n

BFF runs two main programs: a free twice-monthly support meeting and a Therapy Grant Program that allows those suffering to access psychology treatments from a trauma-informed professional.<\/div>\n

Currently, the organization is overrun with demand for their services and they are dealing with a waitlist of 24 people who need access to this therapy. However, funds are really drying up in this economy and we only run two fundraisers a year, one of which is their upcoming\u00a0Celebrity Poker Tournament<\/b>\u00a0on\u00a0May 4th at Stoney Nakoda Casino<\/b>. Calgary Flames alumni, Theo Fleury, and Colin Patterson are both board members for BFF and they have rounded up a roster of NHL alumni for players to bet against at the event.<\/div>\n

Last year was their inaugural event, and the winning pot was $2,800 \u2014 the more people who register, the bigger the prize! Plus, this year the winner is also receiving a Bulova engraved watch worth $750.<\/div>\n
