{"id":7728,"date":"2019-06-14T18:36:58","date_gmt":"2019-06-15T01:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crackmacs.ca\/?p=7728"},"modified":"2020-05-17T01:18:24","modified_gmt":"2020-05-17T08:18:24","slug":"calgary-captured","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crackmacs.ca\/?p=7728","title":{"rendered":"Calgary Captured Wildlife Identification"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Calgary Captured Needs Your Help<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Calgary Captured is a project that utilizes the internet (both technologically and help from volunteers like you) to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zooniverse.org\/projects\/calgary-captured\/calgary-captured\/talk\/subjects\/19014929\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">identify and categorize<\/a> which species of wildlife call Calgary home. Placed throughout various Calgary Parks were a number of trail cameras that took photos of any\/all wildlife that happened to pass by it, using motion sensors. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zooniverse.org\/projects\/calgary-captured\/calgary-captured\/stats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">To date the project is only 1% complete<\/a> (as of June 2019) which means there is a lot left to do. Over 3100 volunteers have helped look through photos so far, but anyone can help. It takes no time to jump right in and begin flipping through photos, you don&#8217;t even need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zooniverse.org\/users\/crackmacs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">register an account<\/a>. You should register though! You&#8217;ll be able to track your progress, plus you can save the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zooniverse.org\/favorites\/crackmacs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">favourite <\/a>pictures you find.<\/p>\n<h4>What they hope to accomplish with the Calgary Captured project<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>What species are occurring in Calgary\u2019s parks system;<\/li>\n<li>Exploration of how human activities impact wildlife movement in parks (are species temporally displaced from trails);<\/li>\n<li>Validation of wildlife corridor modeling done for Calgary; and<\/li>\n<li>Long-term monitoring to assess trends and patterns of terrestrial mammals occurring in Calgary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"symple-testimonial  \"><div class=\"symple-testimonial-content symple-clearfix\"><p>Calgary Captured enables you to join our team and help us classify trail camera photos by identifying the animals you see. By participating not only will you help us with the massive and very important task of identifying wildlife, you get a first hand look into who calls Calgary home and we hope you will enjoy looking at the diversity of wildlife in Calgary. They have a list of 33 varieties to choose from, including humans (they&#8217;re such a pest).
