Christmas shopping usually goes one of two ways, you either buy everything months in advance, or leave it to last minute, and they both have their pros and cons. Whenever possible, buy local! Calgary has so many businesses that offer all kinds of beautifully made products, fun experiences, and lots of things that you can’t even get online. Get out there and support your local economy homie. Below you’ll find a list of things from local Calgary retailers and Alberta businesses, in no particular order.
Video Game Trader
Do you need to buy video games? Sure you do. Buy them from VGT! They have new and used items for every console system, lots of retro stuff, toys, strategy guides, plus they sell movies.

REWORKS Upcycle Shop
REWORKS is located in Victoria Park, at 1325 1 St SE, Calgary, AB T2G 5L1 and their holiday hours are 11:00
AM – 6:00 PM December 23rd, and 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM December 24th.
They’re a shop full of hand-made, green, eco friendly, one of a kind gifts made from all sorts of stuff from local artists. Decor, Tableware, Jewelry, Accessories, Seasonal items, and they even do bike rentals.
Land & Sea – CORE Shopping Centre
Land & Sea has all kinds of really fun awesome gifts. If you haven’t been in their store, it’s similar to that old mall store San Francisco, but more high-brow. Tons of unique things you can’t find elsewhere in Calgary. They also have Friday Sock Co socks! And Mammoth Beard Co oils/supplies! They’re open until 8:00 PM on December 23rd and 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM on December 24th.

Ollia Macaron 101 Baking Classes
If you know someone who loves to bake, or sucks at baking but wants to improve their skills, Ollia Macarons & Tea has regular classes! They’re booking a few months in advance so there’s lots of dates to choose from. Classes begin at 6:30 PM and they cost $100. Click here for details.
What if you don’t know someone who enjoys cooking? Well I bet they’d really enjoy getting a big box of macarons for Christmas. Ollia is located at 810C 16 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2R 0S9 downtown. They’re open from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM on December 23rd, and 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM on December 24th, 2019.
A Growler Filled With Beer!
Beer is good! You heard it here first. If you know someone that likes beer, they’d love a growler full of their favourite beer. If you don’t know what their favourite beer is, maybe check their Instagram and see if they’ve shared photos of them drinking? Try to get something similar. Light beer vs dark beer.
If you don’t know what a growler is, it’s a 64oz refillable glass jug. You bring it to a place that fills them (breweries, some liquor stores) and pay them money and they fill it up.
Try and find out which brewery your beer lover loves, go there and bring get them a growler and beer.
Calgary Zoo Membership
You can totally buy someone an annual membership to the Calgary Zoo! They come in a few flavours, child, adult, 1 adult + 1 child, 2 adults + 2 children, etc, you get the idea. You can also buy them in different combinations – give guest relations a call at (403) 232-9300, from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Note: gift cards bought online will be mailed but you can also visit the zoo in person to get it same day.

Eau Claire Distillery Spirits
This year Eau Claire Distillery released a new London-style 40% bottle of Christmas Gin, complete with legendary Frankincense and Myrrh spices, but also with 24 Karat gold flakes! It not only tastes good but has very Christmasy vibe. It can be found at retailers all over Calgary, notably Co-op Liquor Stores, Crowfoot Liquor, Liquor Depot and Willow Park Wines & Spirits. See the full list of retailers here. It tends to sell out pretty quickly due to how popular it is.
You’ll find each for around $50 a bottle.
Cannabis And/Or Cannabis Accessories
If there’s one thing people that consume weed like, it’s free weed. You can pretty much buy them -anything- and they’ll love it, however if you’re totally clueless, check out our brief guide to Indica vs Sativa strains of weed. Short version: Indica makes you chill, relaxed. Sativa will get those creative juices flowing.
Whichever retail cannabis store you visit, they’ll be able to answer any questions you may have. They don’t just sell cannabis, they’re experts on all aspects of it.

Regal Cat Cafe in Kensington has regular events that involve doing stuff! Some of it is with kitties. Yoga, paint nights, etc. For paint nights, which are $45, they include everything you need: canvas, paint, brushes, instruction, snacks, and of course, visiting the kitties. You don’t get to actually paint with the kitties because we all know how that would turn out haha.
