Calgary Pets On Instagram

Do you know anyone that has an Instagram account for their pet? I bet you do. They’re actually a lot of fun, both for the person running it, and for the internet taking it in. If you don’t know what I mean, basically people create Instagram dedicated to their pet, and then share pictures and videos of the pet doing all sorts of things. For example you could have a dog that poses in front of mountains, or a cat that goes for walks, or a hamster that vapes. Sometimes they’ll run the account from the perspective of the animal, which is super cute. Whatever the topic, they’re a great way for people to bond with their pets, practice their photography and social media skills, and to meet other local pet owners.

Calgary Based Animal Rescues

While we have your attention, here are some wonderful local animal rescue charities and you should go consider donating to right meow. They work very hard to save animals in distress, rehabilitate them, re-home, foster, feed, care for in every way possible, rinse and repeat forever. They’re always in need of support, from monetary donations to pet food or just straight up people volunteering their pair of hands. If you’ve never volunteered before, it’ll look really good on your resume to future employers. Plus it feels good, you’ll get out of the house and maybe meet someone 😉

Calgary Humane Society

Our Mission

OUR MISSION: TO HELP AS MANY ANIMALS AS WE CAN

Our mission is clear and simple: To help as many animals as we can. In today’s complex and changing world, we know that to help as many animals as we can, we must be more than a shelter. We must be leaders in education and violence prevention focused on creating a more compassionate tomorrow.

There can be dozens of different reasons for why a helpless animal is exposed to abuse or is abandoned. As Calgary’s first animal welfare organization, we proudly combine our legacy of sheltering with our focus on education. We are Calgary’s only open-admission animal shelter, and this means one simple thing:

We never say no. We never turn an animal away. When they need us, we respond.

Our mission cannot be accomplished without you. Since 1922, your support has created tens of thousands of brighter futures. Together, we will continue to help as many animals as we can!

OUR VISION:

USING INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES TO LEAD, INSPIRE AND EDUCATE IN THE HUMANE TREATMENT OF COMPANION ANIMALS, FOSTERING AN ENLIGHTENED COMMUNITY WHICH CONSISTENTLY DEMONSTRATES RESPECT AND COMPASSION FOR ANIMALS.

Calgary Humane Society has been providing essential community services since 1922, making us Calgary’s first and most experienced animal welfare organization. Today, in addition to being a multi-service animal shelter, Calgary Humane Society’s Protection and Investigations department is also a law enforcement agency appointed by the provincial government to enforce Alberta’s Animal Protection Act.

Calgary Humane Society’s shelter facility is located at 4455 110 Avenue S.E. in Calgary. Opened in 2006, our beautiful and safe state-of-the-art facility was made possible by the generosity of the Calgary community. Thanks to you, Calgary Humane Society is able to offer industry-leading animal behaviour classes and educational programs in addition to our first class animal care and adoption services.

Pawsitive Match

What we do

We rescue homeless animals – and find them loving families and furever homes.

Pawsitive Match saves dogs and cats facing life-threatening circumstances in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Thailand. The animals in our program come from shelters that have no choice but to euthanize due to over-crowding or because they are shutting down, as well as stray animals that have no home. We also help save animals on local reserves and on a case by case basis, we may assist with owner surrenders. In many cases we are the only hope these cats and dogs have, as many shelters come to us when they are out of options. We do not discriminate by age, size, breed, location, etc. We are here to help all animals.

  • We believe that animals deserve a second chance at a happy life, no matter where they come from

We believe that animals deserve a second chance at a happy life, no matter where they come from. Pawsitive Match also volunteers with the Alberta Spay and Neuter Task Force, whereby hundreds of volunteers get together and organize a spay and neuter clinic on our local First Nations reserves.

And so the story goes

It all began with the efforts of two individuals with big hearts. Together they were successful in saving over 50 dogs from Mexico and placing them in loving, permanent homes. Their efforts didn’t end there, however. They also worked together to recruit local Mexican volunteers for help in implementing a spay and neuter program, and for help in promoting responsible pet ownership. Other volunteers climbed on board and as of late spring of 2007, the group expanded into a new organization: “Pawsitive Match Rescue”.

In the fall of 2011, Pawsitive Match evolved once more by incorporating as Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation. A Board of Directors was put in place to oversee the new not-for-profit corporation as it continued to grow.

In May 2012 the Canada Revenue Agency granted Registered Charity status to Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation.

Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF)

About ARF

About ARF

The Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) of Alberta is an animal rescue organization helping dogs and cats in Alberta.

Founded in 1995, ARF is a volunteer-based organization and registered non-profit charity. Our mission is to rescue stray and unwanted dogs and cats rural areas and communities with limited resources and place them in loving, permanent homes while providing programs to reduce pet over-population.

Please note that we do not accept owner surrenders of non-ARF pets; if you find yourself in a situation where you cannot provide for your pets, please contact the Calgary Humane Society.

What We Do

ARF provides care, stability, medical assistance and lifelong homes for our rescue animals. Since animals have little ability to choose their owners, we must act in their best interests. Some of the ways we do this are by:

ARF does not operate a permanent shelter; instead, we house all rescued animals with foster parents. By providing food and medical care in these temporary homes, we are able to take the time to find the right match between our dogs and cats and their prospective adoptive families. You can visit with our adoptable dogs and cats at various events throughout the year.

AARCS: Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society

AARCS Mission Statement

From their website:

The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) is a grassroots animal welfare organization based in Calgary with a foundation of compassion and kindness, embodied by its hard-working staff, volunteers, foster homes and supporters. Our goal is to help homeless animals in our community and enacting societal change so that someday we may all witness a Compassionate World for All Animals.

AARCS is a leader in the animal welfare community and Albertans turn to us for help. 3,500 animals come through AARCS programs each year. We have an exceptional veterinary medical program coordinated from our 3,000 square foot, in-house veterinary hospital located at AARCS Safe Haven shelter in Calgary. Having a veterinary hospital on-site has given AARCS the ability to help the animals in most dire need of medical attention with onsite surgical suites and the ability to provide life-saving treatment.

Every day AARCS receive calls about animals in need of help – from broken bones, gunshot wounds, embedded porcupine quills, and mange to deadly diseases such as parvovirus. AARCS strives to ensure that these animals receive the medical care they need, along with a chance to recover in a loving foster home. AARCS Safe Haven shelter and on-site veterinary hospital provides emergency medical care and new beginning for each rescued animal on their journey to forever, adoptive homes.

In addition to rescuing animals, AARCS provides numerous community support programs to improve animal welfare in Alberta. This includes facilitating a Pet Food Bank, Dog House Program, Spay/Neuter Assistance, TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), Humane Education and Animal Disaster Response. By getting to the root causes of animal homelessness we can help people and pets in our community.

The organization rescues thousands of animals each year and is supported by over 1,800 volunteers and foster-parents province-wide. It is a place where people can come together to volunteer and give back in an area that is important to them. AARCS and the people who make up this amazing organization are making a difference every day in the lives of homeless animals and there really is no greater feeling in the world than to save a life.

Megan’s Rescue Efforts Society

about Megan's Rescue

From their website:

It is my passion to help homeless, neglected and abused animals. I have been working in Calgary and area trying to help as many of these animals as I can by supporting families in my target community outside the city and here in Calgary, along with feeding many homeless dogs and cats. As we have grown with the support of the community we have been able to build an amazing team of volunteers to help me along this adventure.

We are a small rescue that is foster home based and relies solely on donations, fundraising and our wonderful partners to keep us going. We make sure that every animal in our care gets the vet care its needed, receives any training required and is matched with a family that best fits their needs. All animals leave our care healthy, vaccinated and sterilized to ensure they are getting the best start to their new life. We do not believe in placing them in any home just to get them out of our system, it needs to meet their needs and be a great match for both the animal and the family. This means that some animals will stay in our care for a long time, but we will never put an animal down to make room for another due to space or other non-health related issues. We are committed to every animal we bring into care.

MEOW Foundation

About MEOW Foundation

We work hard to ensure that each MEOW cat is matched with the best possible home based on his or her personality, history, habits and individual needs.

Calgary Instagram Pet Accounts

Birdline Parrot Rescue

About Birdline

Birdline Canada Ltd. is a government registered non-profit organization, located in the province of Alberta.

Our business number is BN 827946666RR0001.

—

While the rescue-rehome community for parrots is on a much smaller scale than the canine or feline rescue networks, many of the same problems are encountered when it comes to abused or neglected pets. The parrot rescue community  encounters many unique issues not experienced by the canine or feline rescues.

Many parrots suffer abuse and neglect, and often times that neglect is not always visible to a non – parrot person.

Add to these challenges the fact that parrots often outlive their owners, have dangerous biting abilities, and are often very difficult to rehabilitate from broken trust situations, and the parrot rescue community is presented with many unique challenges.

Birdline Canada Ltd. exists to help not only the parrots in need of rescue and or rehab from such situations, but to educate others on what neglect looks like and how to help the bird in need and to save as many lives as we can.

We not only work on placement of parrots in a variety of situations, but we also work one on one with families to assist in behavior modifications so that the parrot does “not” have to be re-homed due to undesirable behaviors.

We also work very closely with our avian vets to ensure the best health for each bird coming in regardless of their situation.

Birdline operates with funds generated during our fundraising events and through donations sent in by generous supporters and at times adoption fees and our own personal resources.

We provide financial help to those who may need some assistance with their vet care – we don’t want them to surrender the bird if we can help keep it in their home.  We provide food and toys for others who may need some assistance and we have done emergency boarding on numerous occasions while families have had to transition – sometimes up to 6 months.

We stand by the code and ethics of the Animal Protection Act :

As taken from the Alberta Protection Act (APA) website http://www.albertaspca.org

Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society

The CWRS Mission

The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (CWRS) is dedicated to treating injured and orphaned wildlife, providing valuable outreach and education services to the community and engaging all volunteers in motivational work and skill building experience.

We strive to:

– Rescue and provide appropriate veterinary based care and treatment to injured and orphaned wildlife with the goal of releasing vigorous individuals capable of successfully returning to their natural habitat.

– Provide relevant public education and outreach to schools and other community groups through presentations, visits, displays and literature.

– Maintain connections with other local organizations whose primary interest is wildlife, environmental conservation and related public education

– Provide volunteer opportunities and service to the community by making available a venue for members, service groups, and volunteer minimum-security inmates to contribute to a community service while acquiring new skills.

– Conduct information gathering into the effectiveness of the Society’s treatment programs.

In Closing: Calgary Pets Instagram Accounts

This page of Calgary based Instagram accounts is only but a small sample of what’s out there. If you have an account you’d like to add to the page, drop in a comment below! Animals are fun, and they’re people too. If you can help by donating your time or money to an animal shelter, they can really use the help at all times. Especially around the holidays (people buy pets as gifts..) or when the temperature drops. Cheers.
