Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella

One of my earliest memories is colouring a picture of Cinderella in the living room. As I sat on the living room floor, contorted into a shape that only boneless children seem to achieve, I tried so hard to get the colours to match what the front of the colouring book looked like. I’d spend hours colouring the same dress as the last, only to look at it and somehow feel it was completely different that all the ones that had come before. I could never get that glass slipper to look quite right and I took much delight when my picture was done and it was time to start a fresh page.

Now I just buy the slippers like an adult

Now I’m an adult and sometimes, I still can’t get my slipper to look just right, so I turn to my super fashionable friends like Mr. and Mlle. Fab, (otherwise known as Ryan & Ksenia from the blog immrfabulous.com) for date night style advice!

Where are we off to? You guessed it! To see Cinderella! Here are some super magical suggestions for a night out on Broadway for any style!

Mlle Fab: As I’m a believer in supporting Canadian talent, I chose to feature Bodybag by Jude. She works in her Montreal shop and will include alterations and they are done BY HER. The beauty of these looks are their versatility. You can dress them up or down, depending on the event and season. A quick change in lipstick shade and a dramatic bangle can take you from office to to opera in 5 minutes!

Mr Fab: I love to pair a simple t-shirt with a blazer for nights out at the theatre. It looks dressy but if you get too warm, you can slip it off in the darkened theatre and no one is the wiser! Add a pocket square or a floral lapel pin and you’re rocking a fashion-forward look that shows you know what’s up.

Say yes to the dress

A little bit about the show:

Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella, the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, is a lush production featuring an incredible orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations and all the moments you love—the pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and more—plus some surprising new twists!

More than just a pretty face with the right shoe size, this Cinderella is a contemporary figure living in a fairytale setting. She is a spirited young woman with savvy and soul who doesn’t let her rags or her gowns trip her up in her quest for kindness, compassion and forgiveness. She longs to escape the drudgery of her work at home and instead work to make the world a better place. She not only fights for her own dreams, but forces the prince to open his eyes to the world around him and realize his dreams too.

  1. I’ll admit, never wore a suit on a date, ever. Sometimes I think that now, that I’m all grown up, maybe it’s time…?

  2. My favourite date night outfit right now would be skinny jeans, a pair of red snakeskin heels, a cream short-sleeves top and a black blazer with rolled cuffs. That said, anything right now that isn’t covered with new baby spit up is also amazing! I would love to take my own little princess of this date as she listens to the story of Cinderella almost every night before bed… I can guarantee that her date night outfit would include a crown. Thanks for the chance!

  3. My go to outfit is a black cashmere cape wrap, black lace top, black straight pants, booties, and gorgeous gold with blue crystal chandelier earrings (like Cinderella dress blue).

  4. I go dark jeans, sexy high heeled boots, a low cowl-neck tank top and a loose cardigan. Pair with dark hair and smokey eye make-up that makes my green eyes pop. Silver hoops and a dichroic glass necklace complete the look and give me a memorable accessory/conversation starter. Comfortable and sexy!

  5. A simple t shirt dress, with a bold necklace and booties. In the colder months I’ll just had a small jacket, and fun tights to warm it up!

  6. Hmmm maybe not “Cinderella” worthy but leather leggings, Poppy Barley booties and a slouchy tee is a winning outfit in my books

  7. My little black dress and accessorize it depending on my mood. I usually add a few bling-blings to make it suitable for the occasion.

  8. I have a sweet velvet blazer and some green leather ankle boots. Makes me feel like i should be in a smoking lounge drinking very old scotch. (I don’t actually drink scotch, but it makes me feel classy af)

  13. I would wear my favorite navy dress, (form fitting at the top, A-line floral bottom half) with a nice pair of flats. Depending on the weather I have a blazer or scarf to wear with it.

  15. I’m loving a pair of black skinny jeans paired w a fun top, ankle boots & simple jewellery. Date would be my 10yr old who tends to dress better than I. Likely a tulle skirt, sequined top and her fave black boots.

  16. My date would be with a 6-year-old girl. I can guarantee she would be wearing a colourful dress to match her colourful personality. She would wear shoes that sparkle and a dress that is guaranteed to sparkle. And because it would be a super-special date, she would most likely ask to wear a little of mommy’s lip stick and one of mommy’s super special necklaces – to both I would of course oblige. As for me, I would most likely wear black with black because that’s how this princess choses to dress 🙂

  17. I would keep it very simple with a black button up, light blazer and a pair of dark denim jeans. Match this outfit with a nice brown wingtip shoe and it ties the entire outfit together. A subtle accessory such as a brown & gold Daniel Wellington watch completes the look. Classy, comfortable and casual.
